Albert J. Fanella, Sr., 82, of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Chester County Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Susan (Kane) Fanella, who passed away in 2016. They shared over 50 years of marriage.

Born in Schenectady, NY on February 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Albert Fanella and Constance (Massome) Fanella.  After Al graduated from Scotia High School in New York, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University.  He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army.  Early in his career Al worked for General Electric, and then ventured out on his own to operate several successful businesses.  His latest business, BEC Incorporated, was one that he continued to work at where he had the opportunity to manage the business with his sons.   He was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Church, enjoyed playing golf and volunteering his time with the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown.  Al loved spending time at his beach house in Brigantine, NJ where he could spend hours relaxing on the beach or hanging out on his 2nd story porch.  Most of all Al loved sharing quality time with family and friends where he was always the center of attention.  Al’s life touched the hearts of many including but not limited to the Kane’s, the Lipko’s, the Lengel’s, the Lucchesi’s, the Cugini’s and the Fieldler’s.

Surviving are his children Al Fanella, Jr. of Downingtown, Steve Fanella, husband of Alicia, of Boyertown, Trudi Mathues, wife of Robert, of Exton; grandchildren Jamison Fanella, Sidney Mathues and Kyle Mathues; sisters Vera Brock, wife of Bob, of Daytona Beach FL, Elena Stowell, wife of Jim, Berwyn and partner Laura Fiedler of Malvern.  He was preceded in death by his son Richard Fanella and brothers Fred Fanella, Anthony Antonini and Robert Antonini.

Al was a true success story of a self-made man who also understood the importance of family.  He was the foundation of that family he created and never took it for granted how lucky he was.
