Alvin C. Frick

September 4, 1923 ~ November 26, 2021 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Tribute

Alvin C. Frick, 98, of Glenmoore, PA formerly from Rostraver Township, PA, peacefully passed away on the morning of November 26, 2021 at home.

Born in Monessen, PA on September 4, 1923, he was the son of the late John George Frick and Elizabeth P Schnur Frick. On November 13, 1947, he became the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Meyer Frick.  They were married for 67 blessed years until her passing in 2014.

A 1942 graduate of Monessen High School, Alvin was inducted into the Army on February 25, 1943.  He volunteered to be a paratrooper and was part of the 11th Airborne, First Battalion, 188th Parachute Infantry.  Staff Sargent Frick served throughout Southeast Asia and was preparing to jump into Japan just prior to the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.  He then became part of the occupation forces in Japan until his return home in January 1946.

In 2021, Alvin was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Marine Corps League of Chester County.  This was in recognition of his lifetime service to others.  He was a guest at the Marine Corps Birthday Celebration held at Coatesville Country Club less than two weeks prior to his passing.

He worked as a pressman at the Donora Herald and then the Valley Independent in Monessen until retiring in 1987.  He ran a motor route for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for over 30 years.  He never really retired because he spent much of his time volunteering at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monessen, delivering Meals on Wheels, was a stage hand at the Showboat Variety Show (which raised much needed funds for Meals on Wheels), volunteered with maintenance at Cedar Hills Condominiums, and as recently as November helped to stuff envelopes for the recent elections.  He was happiest when serving.

Everyone that met him remembers his great smile.  He loved the Lord and his family and was just a simple man that wanted to do what he could to help others.

One of his greatest joys was sharing his birthday with his granddaughter, Randee.

Alvin is survived by his children, Rhonda R Holly (Bill) of Glenmoore, PA  where he made his home for the past 4 years and Alvin J Frick (Susan) of Metz, WV; grandchildren: Ryan Cannon (Kimmy) of Birdsboro, PA, Randee Kovatch (Ed) of Glenmoore, PA, Joshua Frick (Joanna) of Morgantown, WV, Jared Frick (Tara) of Morgantown, WV ; great grandchildren, Shane Barton, Clayton Kovatch, Alicia Cannon, McKenna Kovatch, Amanda Cannon, Greyson Kovatch, Aeris Frick, Leland Cannon, Aisley Frick ; survived by his loving sister-in-law Elaine Frick of Largo, FL.
