George Pecknoe

March 20, 1928 ~ December 1, 2021 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

George Pecknoe, 93, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Zerbe Retirement Community in Narvon.  He was the loving husband of Jean L. Johansen Pecknoe with whom he had shared 50 wonderful years of marriage…the happy result of a blind date.

George was born in Ashland, PA, the son of the late Jorge and Anna Chornak Pecknoe.   His elementary and high school education was at Girard College in Philadelphia.  After school, he joined the U.S.Navy during World War II.  Upon discharge he returned to Philadelphia and joined the Philadelphia Fire Department where he retired after more than 36 years. George and Jean moved to Morgantown in 1988.  But George was not happy unless he was working so he began another career in the Twin Valley School system as a custodian and a bus driver. He thoroughly enjoyed being with the kids who often referred to him as Uncle George!  He retired from Twin Valley after 15 plus years.

George was very talented and while in the Navy, he spent free time teaching leather carving in the Hobby Shop.  Easter would find him decorating eggs in the European style of Pasanky.  When not finding some creative outlet, he was an avid reader often with his little dachshund, Chance, curled next to him.

In addition to his wife, Jean, George leaves behind his Sister, Anna Pellak of Glen Mills, his Brother Charles of Morgantown and 5 nieces and nephews…Michael Pellak (Sue), St Davids, Lisa Fisher (Jeff Sloan), Berwyn, Richard Pellak (Anne) Wilmington, DE, Christine Burnett, Kennett Square, and Janet (Chris) Gerhart, St Simons Island, GA.   Also surviving is his cherished God Son, Matthew Palmer, Middletown, NY.

A celebration of George’s Life will be private with the family at a future date.  The family appreciate your kind condolences and prayers. In lieu of flowers and in thanks for the kind and loving care George received, a memorial contribution can be made to The Resident Activity Fund, Zerbe Sister Nursing Center, 2499 Zerbe Road, Narvon, PA  17555.
