Geraldine (Gerry) P. Tirney, 92, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021.  She had a wonderful, happy life shared with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, family, and friends.  She loved the color pink, Frank Sinatra, The Mills Brothers, The Grateful Dead, shopping, and dancing even at age 92.

Born on January 18, 1929, she was the daughter of Paul and Marie Lechner and enjoyed growing up with her sister Lynne and brother Paul in North Philadelphia.  Gerry graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School and valued the close relationships she maintained throughout her life with her “sorority sisters.”  After high school, Gerry worked at Commercial Credit as a bookkeeper and later at J.C. Penney and Strawbridge’s in the billing offices.

Gerry and the love of her life, Charlie Tirney, met in 1944 and married on June 17, 1950.  They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until Charlie passed away in March, 2001.  They raised six children in Upper Darby and Springfield, and later moved to Chester Springs.  In 2012, Gerry moved to Eagleview in Exton where she made many wonderful friends.  Gerry loved bringing people together and building supportive communities wherever she was.  She was the life of the party and it truly brought her joy to see others happy.

The most important things to Gerry revolved around her faith, family, and friends.  She always felt that God was so good to her and gave her many blessings.  The Catholic Church had a significant influence on her life and she enjoyed attending Mass at St. Elizabeth’s.  She inspired many and lived out her faith through loving others.  Gerry will always be remembered for her fun-loving nature, sense of humor, kindness, and faith in God and prayer.  She brought out the best in everyone simply by being in her company.

Gerry had many names within her family, but whether you called her Mom, Grandmom, G, or Gigi, she always had a listening ear and plenty of time for you.  Her family was her greatest joy.  Gerry is survived by her children: Charley Tirney, Stephen Tirney (Patti), Paula Marie Tirney, John Tirney (Debbie), Lyn Donze (Steve), and Kevin Tirney (Chris); her grandchildren; Bryan Tirney, Colleen Williams (Nick), Kelly Curley (Jim), Andrew Tirney (Dina), Lauryn Roth (Ed), Jeff Tirney (Kristen), Mike Tirney (Erin), Kaity Bornaschella (Bill), Krissy Beard (Brian), Ryan Murzyn (MaryKate), Ryan Marshall (Danielle), Jennifer Rodgers (Dave), Danny Tirney (Kristen), Amy Myers (Richie), Stephen Donze, Jill Donze, Alyssa Donze, Cass Donze, Colin Tirney (Kelsey Swierczek), and Devon Tirney; her great-grandchildren: Connor Tirney, Sam Tirney, Maggie Williams, Grace Williams, Tiernan Curley, Seamus Curley, Charlie Tirney, Dominic Tirney, Gia Tirney, Abby Roth, Avery Roth, Charlotte Tirney, JT Tirney, Caroline Tirney, Finn Tirney, Kathryn Tirney, Mae Bornaschella, Jack Beard, Luke Beard, Alison Beard, Blake Murzyn, Lexi Rodgers, Kaylee Becker, Jesse Becker, and David Rodgers. Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Tirney and daughter-in-law, Pat Tirney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 120 St. Elizabeth Drive, Chester Springs, PA.  Family and friends will be received from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM at the church.  Interment will be privately held at a later date.
