Tribute

Richard Thomas “Dick” Straub, 85, of Hillview, Coatesville, PA, passed away on September 17, 2022 with his family by his side. Dick is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Rossiter “Betsy” Straub with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born June 23, 1937 in Oil City, PA, he was the son of the late William Vincent and Ermine Seep Straub. Dick graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1955 and Gannon University in 1960.

Dick was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in West Brandywine and a previous member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Downingtown.  As a volunteer or as a father, Dick was a fixture in the Downingtown sports community and a trusted coach, mentor, and friend to many. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and was most happy when he was in the woods training his English Setters and English Pointers. He competed in the Field Trial circuit and owned and/or trained dogs amassing 20 Championships and Runner-up Championships in his career. Dick was also passionate about golf and fishing; passing on his love of both to his children and grandchildren. Dick was a life-long salesman in the corrugated container industry finishing the last 26 years of his career with Weber Display & Packaging in Philadelphia where he enjoyed connecting with co-workers and clients so much that he extended his career until he was 79.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather exemplifying his love in every interaction. He is survived by his daughter Anne S. (John V.) Vitale; son William V. (Julie P.) Straub; and son Thomas A. “Jake” (Amy P.) Straub; grandchildren, Alexa Vitale (Tyler) Kroft, Bo Vitale, Kate Vitale, Maggie Straub, Ryan Straub, Michael Straub, Bailey Straub, Lainey Straub, and Molly Straub; great granddaughter, Grace Kroft; sisters, Barbara S. Walsh and Jane S. Friday; brothers-in-law Derrick E. MacInnis and William J. (Donne S.) Rossiter; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his brother, John William Straub; sisters, Katheryne S. Loughran, Martha S. Siefer, Nancy S. MacInnis; and brothers-in-law, John L. Loughran, Walter L. Siefer, William T. Walsh, and James E. Friday.

Relatives and friends are welcome to an evening visitation on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 9:45 to 10:45 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, PA 19320.  Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 AM. Dick will be laid to rest at a later date in St. Catharine Cemetery in Titusville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard T. Straub to St. Peter Catholic Church or The Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown.
