Stephen Ernest Atene

Stephen Ernest Atene, age 65, peacefully went to be with the Lord on August 15th in his home surrounded by his wife, his two daughters, and his niece.

He was born in South Philadelphia on October 6, 1953 to Ernest and Theresa (Kane) Atene. Growing up in Glen Mills, PA he attended St. Thomas the Apostle and graduated from Salesianum in 1971.

Steve was a retired foreman at Structural Maintenance Systems, where he worked for about 35 years. He was a hard worker and enjoyed doing anything that would help others. He enjoyed bowling on leagues, skiing, gardening and spent many years slow pitching for ‘Budget Print’. Steve loved coaching ‘his girls’ and attending his ‘kids’ sporting events. Since retirement his favorite past time was spending time with his grandsons. Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He was also like a father to many and loved by all.

Steve is survived by his wife Donna Zaprala-Atene, his two daughters Shannon (Billy) Ackley and Jessica (Hennie) Steyn, his sister Barbara (Rob) Fairbrother, grandchildren Bradley, Elizabeth, Jacob, Noah, and Micah, and his stepmother Angelina Atene. He was like a father to his niece Tara Atene and many others. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathleen Atene Fuse.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 23, 2019 at Meadowcroft Presbyterian Church, 1255 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:15 am, a memorial service will follow at 11:30.
